Officer Josett assessed the situation in seconds. He didn’t see a criminal. He saw a grandfather who needed help.
He approached Jesus. He didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t reach for his cuffs. He listened.
Once he understood the problem—that the ID was expired—Josett made a decision that stunned everyone in the lobby.
He took Jesus by the arm, gently. “Let’s go,” he said.
But they weren’t going to the station for booking. Officer Josett escorted the elderly man to his patrol car, buckled him in, and drove him toward a place most Americans dread more than jail: The DMV.
